Old man’s shoes? Or… What was I saying?

25 Mar

Voi.

No, not a dyslexic Jewish exclamation.

It’s a fashion designer outlet store.

They have a large store in Sydney which is always fun for a browse and occasionally one can find themselves a bargain.

Voi also have a pop up store in George Street, which has been doing the “closing down” sale thing for at least six months.

I’m not complaining, because this is the store that they put the sale items that won’t sell in the Flagship store, and mark them down with another discount.

These shoes, for example.

Italian made Fratelli Ferrante loafers marked down from a retail price of $500, to a measly $99.00!

Now, I’m a fan of the tasseled loafer for certain occasions and looks, but it seems one of my friends isn’t.

My excitement was tempered for about half a millisecond after posting my latest trophy on Facebook when her comment was:

“Stepping into the old man wardrobe early I see. The tassels are designed to accentuate and mirror the excessive ear and nasal hair growth one should be experiencing once one reaches an age where one find these clodhoppers attractive.”

My first thought, naturally, was “Bitch!”

My second thought was to run into the bathroom to check my nose and ears for any stray hairs. (I’m happy to report there was nothing there).

My third, final, and most important thought, was “They’re Italian, they were less than a quarter of the original price, they’re gorgeously comfortable, look great, and they’re mine!”

What do you think, Occasional Reader?

Hot, or not?

No souffle for you!

27 Feb

No, I’m not talking about dessert again.

Nor am I making reference to a pedantic dessert bar chef.

I’m talking about the lack of “souffle top” when I put on these jeans again recently.

Last time I wore these, they were in danger of creating less of a souffle top, and more a full blown nuclear belly mushroom cloud.

I can now actually walk past my mirror topless and not make myself nauseous.

Not that I’m going to subject you to such an image.

It still ain’t exactly pretty.

Our last day together.

31 Dec

It’s our last day together, Occasional Reader.

I’ll assume that dance you just broke into is a dance of immeasurable sorrow, and not one of joy.

In that case, don’t fret.

I only meant the last day of this year together of course.

Apart from the major disappointment of the world not ending after all, 2012 has been an interesting year.

The first half of this year was fabulous, to say the least.

I was in a fantastic job, earning a very healthy income.

I was deliriously smitten in a more-often-than-not  love affair.

I started writing this blog with the grand target of reaching hundreds, if not thousands of people out there and… well… and nothing. There was no real point to starting this. It was, and is still, a quite enjoyable exercise in self indulgence.

All in all, the year was travelling along fabulously!

Then the second half of the year hit.

I was retrenched (Boo!).

I went on my first overseas holiday (Yay!).

My lady love left me (Double Boo!).

I found gainful employment elsewhere (Yay!), but it came with a significant salary cut (Boo!).

I was a contestant on Come Dine With Me Australia (Yay!). Airing 8th January 2013, for those who have been eagerly awaiting release details.

Clearly, I’m still writing the blog, and while on the whole, it’s still an exercise in self indulgence (and closing in on 100 followers!), it has somewhat inspired me to look into possibly starting along a new path in life, if only part time. More on that in the New Year. (That’s a Yay!)

I hope that you too, Occasional Reader, have had at the very least, a slightly better than average 2012, and can look forward to making the most out of 2013.

Wow, that’s enough of the sentimental crap.

Here’s what I wore to dinner last night.

No suit was always going to win.

26 Jul

Remember I asked the other day about whether I should wear a suit or go smart casual to an informal agency meeting?

I was absolutely swamped with the response. I had to shut down my account for a day just so I could organise and file the answer. That’s right. Answer. Singular. Luckily that one person had the same high opinion of my dress sense as I do.

It was essentially a rhetorical answer to a semi-rhetorical question, because I had already decided that I could rock it without the corporate look for the day.

For the record, I wowed him enough for him to present me to his clients. Apart from me just being generally awesome, I’m pretty sure I had him hypnotised with my fabulous velvet jacket.

I looked good, didn’t I? That’s another rhetorical question, but feel free to answer in the affirmative.

Winter. A time for discoveries.

24 Jun

I’ve always wondered what people mean exactly when they claim to be “finding” themselves.

I tried finding myself once. Shortest game of hide and seek. Ever.

You found me!

Something I find way more satisfying than self discovery is self outfit discovery. It’s what I love about Winter. All summer, my jacket and coat wardrobe has been ignored, apart from the occasional addition I have picked up at an out of season sale. When the temperature starts to drop, the wardrobe is opened, my dry cleaner starts to celebrate and I start the journey of rediscovering all the fabulous coats and jackets I have managed to amass, and of course, getting reacquainted with some old favourites.

Like this one today. It’s not a designer brand. In fact it’s one of the cheapest jackets I have ever bought, but by God, it’s comfortable, warm, a perfect fit and I think it looks great on me.
