The pitter patter of little feet, dahlinks!

30 Nov

No, I didn’t get anyone pregnant.

Nor have I become a medical marvel and impregnated myself.

There has, however, been a recent addition to the immediate population of my circle of friends, with my best friend giving birth to a baby girl.

The baby shower was fast approaching and there was really only one logical present I was going to buy for my new “niece”.

Shoes.

Not just any shoes, though.

They just HAD to be designer shoes!

I wasn’t even sure there was such a thing, but I figured there would have to be pretentious parents-to-be out there somewhere wanting their baby to be in THE latest fashions, darlings!

I found a few sites online, but the jackpot was hit when I came across childrensalon.com (Link over on the right, as usual.)

I found the cutest booties, Dior, no less! They even came with a little Baby Dior suitcase to put them in!

I was then obligated to look through the rest of the offerings, and I have to say, that is when things got just a little bit out of hand.

It wasn’t my fault. What else is one supposed to do when one comes across baby shoes with names like Gucci, Armani & Versace? Versace, for Gods sake!

I nearly bought them all.

I couldn’t resist a little bit of bling at the end, so jumped on the Guess sneakers for her too.

I may have started an unhealthy precedent, and will probably be forever known as the Uncle who buys shoes.

Do you hear me complaining?

They followed me home. Can I keep them?

16 Nov

I had absolutely no intention of buying a pair of shoes yesterday.

It just so happened that I was in Bondi Junction for work, and during my lunch break, I did what everybody does on their lunch break.

I went to browse the shoe department of David Jones.

Now, remember when I wrote the post about the mega bargain Armani loafers in mid October? Of course you do, what was I thinking?

Those loafers that I picked up for an amazing $70, are now on “special” for the not so bargain price of $260.

As if that wasn’t enough to give me the warm and fuzzys, I then came across these potential new shoeplex residents.

I admit, they’re not exactly eye catching, and compared to some of my other purchases, they’re positively boring. (Kenneth Cole fans just experienced an apoplectic fit. I called his shoes boring!)

Why did I buy them apart from the fact they were a measly $65?

The weird thing is, amongst all the pairs of shoes that I am so proud of, I actually don’t have a pair of black sneakers in my possession.

Well, that was until now.

Speaking of fabulous….

14 Nov

It’s been a while since I photographed my place of worship.

During my weekly exercise of wiping down the residents of the shoeplex, using a fairy tear soaked unicorn hair chamois of course, I noticed that the quality of life has definitely improved in the right hand side.

The right side of the shoeplex used to be the drab, everyday type resident, with mostly black, beige or simply blurk-type shoes.

Nowadays, regular residents include Armani, Bally, Pirelli, and the like.

There’s no longer any shame in being relegated to the closed door side of the shoeplex.

Hell, the Louboutins have even spent some time in there!

There’s now a true rotation policy between right and left side of the shoeplex, with nearly everyone having their turn in the glass house.

And it’s all down to me.

I’m the one that conducts the culls to rid the shoeplex of those beige residents that just don’t appeal anymore.

I’m the one that goes out in search of new additions to my shoe community.

I’m the one that finds a home for those beautifully unique and colourful residents.

I’m a wonderful human being, really I am.

I love you, Mike.

How about a BJ?

8 Nov

Maybe even a pair of BJs?

Baoji Fashion is a leading Thai footwear label, mostly specialising in sneakers.

They also seem to be fans of shortening their name to BJ on all their products.

From here on in, they will be affectionately known as BJs, which I’m not so sure is a good idea.

I scored these BJs while I was in Bangkok. o_o

I would put their link up on the page but the BJ site doesn’t seem to work.

Apparently there are a lot of Thai celebrities that love BJs.

See what I mean? Juvenile.

In all seriousness though, if I had known that Baoji shoes would have been so comfortable, or for that matter, made so well, I would have bought plenty more while I was there.

This particular pair have become regular starters for my casual outfits and after numerous wears and walks, still look brand new.

I’m not even considering the ridiculously cheap price I paid for them in a store ($15).

My Armani sneakers look more worn than these after about the same amount of wears.

I’ve said it befoe and I’ll say it again.

I LOVE BJs!

I took a trip over to Bondi Junction Westfield last night.

I had heard that David Jones was having one of their unadvertised footwear clearances.

How did I hear about it?

I offer sexual favours to a network of store assistants in return for advance phone calls of sale items and clearance dates.

Let me tell you, it keeps a boy busy.

Which reminds me, I have to tell the Woolworths guy that I’m no longer interested in when Tim Tams go on sale…. Mmmmm…. Tim Tams……

Anyway, I was browsing through the shoe department when I spied a pair of beautiful Armani Collezioni blue suede loafers.

I looked at the standard price tag of $340 and my heart sank a little.

Even with a discount, we were probably looking at $200 or so, and I wasn’t sure if I could stretch the budget this week after my recent visit to Squire Shoes.

I turned the shoe over and there was the sale sticker…. wait for it…. $70!

Armani! $70!

This had to be a mistake.

I raced over to the sales assistant, and asked if they could check the price, and yes, they scanned at $70.

I would have tried squeezing into 3 sizes too small for me at that price, but they had one pair of 42′s left!

A helping of serendipity, anyone?

Don’t mind if I do!

Armani’s a man’s man.

26 Jul

Try saying that fast five times.

I don’t mean that that that that that….

Armani. Giorgio, Emporio, Collezioni, Jeans or Exchange, they’re all fine places to shop and pieces to wear.

I’ve brought the brand up to discuss today because of a slightly disturbing discovery I made recently.

I have a number of Armani clothing items, and three pairs of Armani shoes. That wasn’t the discovery, in case you were wondering.

The discovery was, as I was cleaning my shoes the other night, it became apparent to me that out of the three pairs of Armani shoes I have, only one pair is made in Italy, while two pairs are made in Indonesia. This prompted me to check the clothing. Apart from one Italian made jacket, everything else is made in China! This surprised me, as I had always assumed that everything was made in Italy, apart from the Exchange brand, which is at the cheaper end of the scale. I suppose when I first started getting interested in clothing, and I found my first Armani jacket, it was made in Italy, and I just blindly assumed the rest was as well.

I wonder if there is a level of letting the consumer assume the country of manufacture. If I take a look at the Armani Jeans I have, there are two large labels on the inside of the waistband, one with the laundry instructions etc (primarily in Italian), the other with the sizing, which is all in Italian, right down to an Italian address on the tag. It is only under these two tags, that I find a small fabric tag with Made in China printed on it. Now I’m thinking that when I’m in the store, I look at the tag for the size, and would consciously, and even subconsciously notice the Italian language written there, and not see the Made in China tag underneath.

It turns out that I have been completely off the mark when it came to my belief that the major cost of a premium branded clothing item was the fabric and build quality. The materials and the equipment used nowadays in China/India/Indonesia etc, especially in the European brand factories, are just as good as what is or was used in the original factories in Europe. What the major difference is, is the cost of labour. Now with the huge difference in the cost of labour, you would think that we could pick up those shoes so much cheaper if they were made in China. Wrong again. Apparently, the major contributor to the cost of those $300 sneakers, or that $1500 suit, is design. According to an article in the China Times, the average cost of producing an Armani suit is approximately $50. Now obviously this depends on volume etc, but that blew my mind! They go on to say that the average cost of the 3m of higher quality material to make a suit is $33, so the labour and production costs are a measly $17! Why then, is that same suit on the rack in an Armani store for $1500? Apparently, because of the design costs involved. The same article quotes that the design cost of that suit could be as high as $200000 for a run of 500 suits. Take that into account and the price doesn’t seem so extravagant. They still have to ship, store, sell etc, and of course, turn a profit. It just goes to show how little I know about the fashion process, and what a clothes horse I really am.

At the end of the day, I have no issue with the quality of any of those items or shoes, and will still continue to purchase the brand. I just wish they were a little more open about where they are manufactured.

To suit or not to suit?

24 Jul

I have an interview booked for this Thursday morning with a director of an employment agency.

There’s no particular role in mind, it’s more of a meet, greet and chat about my general skills and awesomeness, and how he could sell this awesomeness to a potential employer.

Now I’m actually meeting him at a local cafe and I was considering ditching the suit for the day.

I’m not talking about turning up in shorts and sandals with a surfboard under my arm (anyone who knows me has just fallen off their chair in fits of laughter with that image in their head), but making it a little more casual than a suit and tie.

I’m going to go for the “I’m awesome, and I don’t need a suit to prove it” look.

What are your thoughts, occasional reader?

Suit? Or smart casual?

I need your help occasional reader.

Is wearing all denim acceptable without a mullet or cowboy boots?

Should I be leaving this look in the wardrobe or does it look totally acceptable?

I can’t work out whether I like it or not….

Apologies for my absence.

8 Jul

Or is that abscess? No, that’s gross, it’s definitely absence.

I’ve had a couple of quite.. errrr… interesting days. I found out very suddenly late last week that I am redundant. Well, actually, my job is redundant, I still exist.

It is for this reason I have been silent on the blog. Something about becoming one of the unwashed and unemployed masses kind of dulls one’s desire to talk about the pretty things in one’s life.

After much deep soul searching, which, if you know me wasn’t that deep at all, I’ve decided that if I’m going to be unemployed, I may as well be well dressed while unemployed.

Nothing makes you feel better about not earning an income than adding up all the money you have spent on clothes…. Ooops.

Shoes – Bally $490

Jeans – Armani $160

Wow, there’s some really helpful people out there!

18 Jun

I was going through my blog’s dashboard and noticed there were countless so called spam messages in my mailbox.

I say so called spam, because after I read a few of them, I got to thinking that there might be some real help in there. People could actually be trying to get in touch because they care about me!

Perhaps I do need help in finding thousands more linkages to my blog.

Maybe I do need a supplier of cheap Viagra (Sure, I’m looking to spend the least amount of money on a drug that plays with my man bits).

Maybe I’m not happy with my lady love and I really do want to have hundreds of “sex dates”, without even trying!

It warms a man’s cockles to know that there are people out there in cyber-land that actually care if I get followers, that genuinely want me to have lots and lots of funky, non-committal sex with ladies that are apparently in my area, and not only that, they want to make sure that I can remain a fine upstanding member of the male species while I do so. I feel so blessed.

Oh yes. I better stick to the subject. Here’s another outfit.
